I have been a fan of Mark Steinmetz's work for nearly 2 decades. I'd been trying to get him to come here for the Cassilhaus residency for years but he was always booked up. In 2015 he agreed to a 5-day micro residency in collaboration with the Duke MFA|EDA program where he stayed and worked at Cassilhaus and then taught and critiqued the MFA students. He also gave an artist talk and we got to see his most recent work. Mark is based in Athens, GA and is a photographers' photographer. Ask any group of photographers who their top 5 favorite photo artists are and Mark is almost always on that list. He is a brilliant printer and authored some of the most compelling images in our collection. In collaboration with Nazraeli Press, he also produces stunning limited edition photobooks that sell out very quickly.
