I've already done some bragging on our new kittens Joni and Jaco who turned 10 months today. We were really struggling to keep them off the kitchen counters and had a notion that if we got them a perch that was higher and cooler that they would hang out there instead. All of the cat "trees" I found on initial Google searches were those carpeted mulitlevel things that were pretty ugly. Our hipster cats vetoed those, of course, and sent me back to the interwebs for a more contemporary option. Boy did I get an eyeful--a few of my early finds:
The Danish Entry (complete with PhotoShopped kittens):
The German Entry:
And my personal favorite the Russian entry:
I decide that I needed something really high though and I found it in the Franklin Cat Tower, designed by architect Peter Sehorsch and made partially from off the shelf IKEA parts. We decided to put it in the highest corner (17') of the living room where the kittens could have a wide view of the forest. It is a very elegant solution for this location and the metal support standoffs integrated nicely with the windowsils.
The adjustable shelves spiral around the pole and allowed convenient placement.
Even before assembly was complete Jaco and Joni moved in.
Turns out its a pretty cool place to hang out night or day.
From this vantage point they can see any morsel of food left by the humans on the kitchen counters which they hang out on just about as much as they used to.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
