The first big shipment of windows arrived and they were installed at the end of last week. It seems like each window is a unique size! They all have Low E glass for best energy performance. They are wood windows with bronze colored exterior aluminum cladding.
We did decide to add back the large window on the east side of the living room. I don't know what we were thinking when we deleted it. It will make a HUGE difference in this space and lets you see the beautiful beech tree and the rest of the house from inside.
Friday we had a visit from Marc Maiorana (see previous post) and his girlfriend Robin and brainstormed about custom railing design for
both sets of stairs.
Marc's work is so beautiful and organic.
Ellen and I are very excited about this kind of artist collaboration on the house. The whole house was designed around celebrating art and artists. Marc and Robin were very excited about the project. They made a million measurements and we talked about a lot of design options. They will now send sketches and we will develop the final concept. Marc also does free standing sculpture and we have one at home now called Draw #4.
The master closet was also framed last week and Ellen and I keep joking about living in it. By today's his and hers walk-in closet standards it is not so huge but compared to our current closet if feels luxurious.
It is a free standing volume on the east end of our bedroom. There is a donut circulation pattern around it with our bed at the back and a hallway for dressing in the front. There is a huge storage area above.
You can never solve a problem at the level at which it was created. You have to go to at least one level beyond.
