We've gotten to the place where most decisions are so intertwined with other decisions that you have to have all the pieces together in one place to make sure everything works together. This floor material is next to this piece of millwork in the next room etc. etc. Tuesday night Ellen and held the Finish Olympics on our kitchen island. We brought together all of the tile samples, Corian samples, stucco finish colors, granite counter sample (honed and polished), shower trim materials, metal roof samples, backsplash materials, hardwood millwork and flooring samples, etc. and tried to wrap up all remaining finish choices.
Ellen brought some beech leaves from the land to help us choose the exterior stucco color. The metal roof color choice came down to the color of the beech bark and highest reflectance value to lower energy consumption. On our granite counter tops we are working with the wonderful Nancy Lau Prescott at Prescott Stone Fabricators. She sent us a birth announcement when our Cafe Imperial stone arrived at the warehouse! Download granite_birth_announcement.pdf We completely trashed the kitchen but we had a great time and made some great choices. I'm sure it won't look anything like I imagine.
